Alexandra Rose Raisman Bio

Alexandra Rose Raisman was born on May 25, 1994. She retired as an American artist gymnast. She was captain of the 2012 "Fierce Five" as well as the in 2016 the "Final Five," U.S. women’s Olympic gymnastics team. She took home a gold team medal at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Gabby Douglas and Raisman are the only Americans to win back-to-back gold medals at this event. Raisman was also awarded silver medals in the individual all-around and floor exercise. Raisman has silver medals from the individual all-around, as well as the floor exercise. She also is two-time champion of the national championship in floor exercises (2012 and 2015) as well as the 2012 champion of the national championship in balance beam. She's also a five-time national champion in all-around at national championships (silver and bronze in 2010 2011 and 2012 and). She was inducted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 2013. Raisman was born on the 25th of May, 1994 in the Boston suburb of Needham, Massachusetts, to Lynn (nee Faber), an ex-high school gymnast and Rick Raisman. She has three younger siblings, Madison, Chloe and Brett. Raisman is Jewish and has said, "I take a lot of satisfaction in the fact that I can not just represent the U.S.A as well as the Jewish community everywhere. "Raisman started gymnastics when she was just 18 months old. She attributes her love for gymnastics to the "Magnificent Seven", an American women's team that won the gold medal in the 1996 Summer Olympics. The athlete began her training at Exxcel Gymnastics and Climbing up to Level 8. She then transferred to Brestyan's American Gymnastics Club, where she was directed by Silvia Brestyan and Mihai Brestyan. Raisman completed her studies at Needham High School in 2012. She finished her senior year online and was practicing for the Olympics.
