Anita Ekberg

Marianne (Swedish pronunciation (listen) 29/09/1931 - 11/01/2015) was a Swedish
actress, well-known for her beauty and striking figure. Her role as Sylvia in
Federico Fellini's film La Dolce Vita (1960) earned her fame. Ekberg performed
her work mainly in Italy which is where she was permanent residents in
1964.Anita Ekberg was born on 29 September 1931 in (Sweden) and was the sixth
of eight children. Anita was a model for fashion throughout her teens. On the
advice of her mother Ekberg was a contestant in Miss Malmo in 1950. She was
crowned the Miss Sweden contest. Despite not being fluent in English She
travelled to the United States to compete to get the Miss Universe title for
1951. While it was a non-formal pageant, the official pageant became formalized
in 1952. Ekberg did not win the title of Miss Universe winner, but she was
among six finalists. She did , however, earn a contract with Universal Studios
as a starlet. As the starlet at Universal they gave her lessons in elocution,
drama, horses, dancing and fencing. She appeared briefly in The Mississippi
Gambler (1953), Abbott and Costello go to Mars (1953), Take Me to Town (1953)
as well as The Golden Blade (53).
